The past two days I attended two events with the Springbok team. On Monday it was the official announcement of the 31 players going to the World Cup in Japan and Tuesday it was the Farewell dinner and capping of the team before they leave for the Rugby Show piece.
MTN, in partnership with the South African Rugby Union (SARU) hosted a farewell dinner for the Springbok team and management on Tuesday, 27 August in Johannesburg before they depart for Japan on Friday, 30 August.
At the send-off dinner on Tuesday I was fortunate to be seated next to 2007 World cup winning captain John Smit.
Mark Alexander, President of SARU, thanked MTN and said: “On behalf of the Springboks I would like to thank MTN for their unstinting support since joining us three seasons ago. They have been part of the team’s upward trajectory and have brought the nation closer to their team with their campaigns. We know you have ‘got us’ and we are highly appreciative.
“These are exciting times for Springbok rugby and we can grow stronger together.”
