Bryan Habana’s Springbok career might be over

Over the past few months justjody.co.za has received various tip-offs that Springbok Bryan Habana’s days of donning the green and gold might be over.  Habana (34) was not selected for the current incoming series against France.

Habana told EWN Sport “I’ve had an open and honest chat to Allister (Coetzee) about where I stand and I really appreciate the fact that he picked up the phone and gave me a call. Obviously, last year I thought that I’d probably have made a much bigger impact in terms of my leadership etc, but as disappointing as it was, Allister has been open and honest about where he wants to take this team and I’m not too sure that I’m going to be around in 2019.”

Considering the way youngsters like Courtnall Skosan, Raymond Rhule and Dillyn Leyds have been performing, and you have guys like Ruan Combrink and Jumba Ulengo literary waiting in the wings, its unlikely the legend of the game will play for South Africa again.

He was capped 124 times for the Springboks, scoring 67 tries. He was also a member of the bok team that won the Rugby World Cup in 2007 and was named world rugby player in the same year.

Habana’s last Test in the green and gold was in November of 2016, where he scored in their historic 20-18 loss to Italy. He says that for now, he’s just focused on getting back to full fitness and is willing to help out if required.

Habana is currently in Cape Town where he will launch the South African arm of his leadership foundation.
