Die-hard Adele fans will be pleased to know that one of Cape Town’s hottest new talents will be paying tribute to the English singer and songwriter during three late-night shows held next week.

Leagan Phillips-Laws, an actor and singer from Cravenby, is set to perform hits from Adele’s second album, 21, at Baran’s in Greenmarket Square, Cape Town. The album, he says, became the soundtrack to his tumultuous early 20’s.

“I felt a deep kinship with Adele since she wrote it whilst in her early 20’s herself. I think love at that stage of one’s life is very fierce and passionate, but also at times quite destructive. To me 21 encapsulates those feelings quite perfectly,” he says.

Phillips-Laws describes Rolling In The Deep With Leagan as an “intimate reimagining of Adele’s 21 interspersed with my own stories of heartbreak, love and redemption. Of course, the show also has a healthy dose of laughter to keep the melancholy at bay.”

The sultry singer has completed a national tour as part of the ensemble of the musical Rent. Other career highlights include Sketches of Exes, his one-man show at the Galloway Theatre last year. Also, he was a hit in the recent Suidoosterfees show Kaapse Draai.

Phillips-Laws will be performing his rendition of some of his favourite Adele songs, including “Rumour Has It” and “Someone Like You”. He says it’s an intimate show with just an acoustic guitar and piano to create the perfect atmosphere for couples and singles alike.

He says, “It’s been a childhood dream to put together a show like this where I get to perform and have a chat with the audience. I like to engage with the crowd and make them feel part of the experience. I’m looking forward to share this really special moment with Cape Town.”

Tickets for Rolling In The Deep With Leagan cost R100 and is available at Webtickets or Pick n Pay stores. The show runs for three nights only from Wednesday, 30 May to Friday, 1 June at 8pm.
