Just Jody meets Wayde van Niekerk

It’s exciting to hear about Wayde van Niekerk’s ambitions this season.

SA’s 400m World and Olympic champion Wayde van Niekerk has set his sights on competing in the 200m as well as the 400m items at the upcoming world championship in London, this after the IAAF‚ the world governing body for athletics‚ agreed to alter the schedule.

Van Niekerk will thus have the opportunity to defend his 400m world title but also compete against sprint sensation and close friend Usain Bolt in the 200m.

The meeting in London will be Bolt’s farewell to athletics after dominating the 100m and 200m races for the past decade.

Van Niekerk clocked a time of 19.90 seconds in the 200m at  South African championships in Potchefstroom earlier this year, dipping below 20 seconds for the second time with a career best.

The experience he would have gained in the 200m and with Bolt retiring after world champs could set the stage for our local superstar to dominate the 200m and 400m in years to come.
