Stars of sport and business will team with Gary Player to support his quest to raise money for underprivileged communities in South Africa at the 2018 Gary Player Invitational presented by Coca-Cola at The Lost City Golf Course from 22-25 November.

Legendary Liverpool footballer Sir Kenny Dalglish will be joined by fellow footballers and former Bafana Bafana greats Aaron Mokoena, Jimmy Tau and Mark Williams. Former Springbok rugby player Owen Nkumane, Proteas cricket captain Graeme Smith, and West Indian batting great Brian Lara will also be in the field at Sun City to support this year’s tournament.

They join an illustrious collection of professional golfers including the Black Knight as well as World Golf Hall of Famer Annika Sorenstam, former Masters champion and European Ryder Cup captain Ian Woosnam, 2008 Masters champion Trevor Immelman, South African Open champion Richard Sterne, Sunshine Tour professional Keenan Davidse, former professional and leading golf commentator Hennie Zuël, LPGA Tour campaigner Joanna Klatten, and Irish pop star Brian McFadden.

Amongst the businessmen that have also rallied behind the Grand Slam champion’s charity drive this year include Grant Horsfield, a South African entrepreneur who moved to China and developed the immensely successful nakedGroup of luxury resorts in the Chinese countryside.

Horsfield returns to the tournament as the holder of his own unique record on the series. The businessman is the proud owner of his own Grand Slam, with him having won each of the Gary Player Invitational tournaments worldwide.

“Gary Player is one of only five players to have ever won the Grand Slam, and I’m the first and only winner of the Gary Player Invitational Grand Slam. I’m proud of it. Seriously though, it’s just such a pleasure to support him in these events. He is truly a global and South African hero,” said Horsfield.

Alex Maditse, Managing Director of Copper Moon Trading, is another long-time business supporter of the Gary Player Invitational presented by Coca-Cola and a passionate supporter of The Player Foundation’s goal of raising $100 million for charity by 2025, with the current total standing on $64 million.

“We are privileged to participate in the GPI at this magnificent course. The venue is spectacular, but the main focus is to raise money for The Player Foundation, which touches the lives of those in need at the grassroots level. At age 83, Mr. Player, continues to show that he is a person who has a big heart, particularly for those less fortunate.”
