The opening round of the 2019 Super Rugby season dished up some scintillating rugby with many games being won by seven points or less. South African teams also had a good start to the season with the Sharks, Bulls and Lions all getting victories.

Week 1 Results

16 February        Jaguares 16 – 25 Lions

16 February        Bulls 40 – 3 Stormers

16 February        Sunwolves 10 – 45 Sharks

16 February        Waratahs 19 – 20 Hurricanes

16 February        Blues 22 – 24 Crusaders

15 February        Brumbies 27 – 34 Rebels

15 February        Chiefs 27 – 30 Highlanders

The Bulls brought back memories of fortes Loftus after running riot against the Stomers, eventually winning 40-3. The Stormers were lucky to get three points out of this game and it seems that off the field politics has defiantly made its way on the park with the players from Cape Town looking uninspired and lacklustre from minute one.

The Sharks and Lions also did well to get victories away from home.  But the following players impressed me and made the #justjody Super Rugby team of week 1.

15. Warrick Gelant (Bulls)

14. Sbu Nkosi (Sharks)

13 Jessie Kriel (Bulls)

12. Andre Esterhuizen (Sharks)
